A Commemoration to Queen Eleanor, Queen Consort to King Edward of England.
The figure of Eleanor and to her right reading from the top, the Coat of Arms of Lyon and Castile consisting of the Lion of Lyon and the Castle of Burgos, centre the Arms of England and at the base the Arms of Ponthieu.
There are twelve crosses, symbolic of the crosses erected in Eleanor’s memory by Edward along the route of her funeral cortege in 1290 from Lincoln to her final resting place at Westminster Abbey. These crosses are represented throughout the background of the design; they flow from one to another, as the original crosses would have done representing the Queen Eleanor's final journey.
